There are flavours of nodemcu. But the original comes up with the Silicon labs driver chip to provide interface of ESP8266 with computer USB.

Driver Installation is required to be installed in your computer to recognized the device.

In order to install CP2102 (USB to Serial Converter), you will need driver for the same. You may download drivers from the following link.

http://www.silabs.com/products/development-tools/software/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers

For windows Click on CP210xVCPInstaller_x64.exe or CP210xVCPInstaller_x86.exe  and it will do the installation of driver by its own.

Now, if you Plugin your Node-MCU over USB, you would hear famous ‘tang’ sound and your board will be detected as below if you see in the windows device manager. [Just search for ‘device manager’ in the Run for windows XP,7 or in application launcher in Windows 7 or later ]

Search out the ‘Serial Port’ and under this you will see ‘Silicon Bridge CP210x USB to UART bridge (COM4)’

In my case, it has been detected as COM4. but it can be detected for any other number based on COM port already installed in your PC.

Never mind, for this tutorial sake remember COM4 is the port on which device driver got installed.

Let’s move to next Step of configuring the ESP8266 to enable programming via Arduino.

Step 2 : Upload Primary firmware ESP8266 to enable programming with Arudino.
